"IT" invades the Globe!

EDGE Improv, Brisbane's cutting edge improvised theatre troupe has invaded the Globe... the Globe Theatre in Fortitude Valley, that is!

On Wednesday the 16th of January, the troupe will starting their monthly shows at the venue with their shock-horror sci-fi B-Movie inspired show "It Came From Somewhere Else!".

The show features a mixture of skits and dubbed movie clips, with the climax being a fully improvised B-Movie by the troupe.

It's like a mix of "Thanks God You're Here" and "Plan Nine From Outer Space".

The show will build on the Globe's reputation as a great live venue... as well as a venue for cult movies... as it's  a combination of both!

"It Came Form Somewhere Else" has thrilled audiences in venues around Brisbane, as well as being featured in sell-out shows at the Brisbane Festival Theatre Fringe in 2006.

EDGE Troupe Director Brad Daniels is excited at the prospect of performing at the new venue.

"The Globe is a great venue... edgy, a little rough around the edges, and great fun... just like our show!"

"Seriously, though, this is our dream venue for this show... where better to call on the spirit of movies past than an old cinema?" he says.

The "IT" show is the first of a regular monthly show EDGE will be staging at the Globe, where each month they will be visiting a different genre.

"We hope to do chick flicks, westerns, noir... the whole gamut of film experience!" says Brad.

It Came From Somewhere Else is a longform improvisation developed by Brad Daniels, the troupe director of EDGE. It draws its inspiration from the Sci-fi genre, but it also has a highly original structure where players are assigned their roles randomly according to the spin of a wheel.

There are literally thousands of combinations that are possible, so even though there are only 6 basic choices to begin with, there will never be 2 shows that are the same... even if such a thing were possible in improvisation.

First, the wheel is spun to determine what the “movie” is about, then the player randomly select what their “job” is (such as scientist or policeman), and then they select what their “role” is in the movie. Their role could be to be the hero, the villain, the love interest, or the comic relief...
