An Impro Memory
An Impro Memory
Friday, 21 January 2011
A while ago I got an email from an old friend & improvisor who had been going through some really tough times recently. He sent through a memory of when we played together in a team about 10 years ago.
This brought back memories for me of a scene he was in back when I was first getting involved in impro - about 1994-95.
He and another old friend of mine were in a “Scene without a Question”. It was just the two of them, and was set up as a job interview (to make the scene extra hard for them). I remember watching in the crowd and just being knocked out - they were slaying it, doing the interview, and generally being hilarious.
About half way through the scene, one of them was demonstrating his sweeping technique -everyone in the audience was falling about laughing, and I realised I couldn't even remember what the hook was for the scene they were doing.
I was so engaged by what was happening on stage I completely forgot about the "no questions" thing.
When I finally remembered that it was a “no questions” scene, I was doubly impressed with the skill and humour they had shown.
I will always remember that as a scene done so well it transcended the game.
Back in the day, THIS was the only impro you could see in Brisbane.
